WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley says the Terras will chase down league leaders Hereford after a 2-0 win at home to Dunstable saw Weymouth narrow the gap on them to five points in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

The Terras remain third with 78 points, four and five points behind King’s Lynn Town and Hereford respectively.

Molesley said: “We will chase and we will harry and we will not give up until it is mathematically impossible.

“All we can concentrate on is our next game and just keep trying to accumulate as many wins and points and see where it takes us.

“It is going to take some doing to get ahead of them but it just shows you in this league anyone can beat anyone and that is why I was so pleased with our professional performance, because it was a potential banana skin.”

Hereford have two games in hand over King’s Lynn and Weymouth but lost 3-1 to Basingstoke Town at the weekend.

The Terras narrowed the gap with the victory over Dunstable, with Calvin Brooks and Brandon Goodship scoring late on in the first half.

Molesley said: “It was a tough afternoon, they are a young energetic side I thought they were very well organised and they made us work hard for our victory.

“We played some good stuff, we could have put the game more clearly to bed, a bit more out of sight. We created some good chances, a couple did not go in but on the whole it was a professional job for us.”

The manager admits he was relieved to get the goals as Dunstable had held Weymouth off despite the Terras dominating for large swathes of the first half.

Molesley said: “We were glad to get the goals in the first-half otherwise it was always going to be a bit more of an anxious second half otherwise so the goals came at a good time which settled everyone down.

“Everyone sees their league position and probably saw that they lost quite heavily the week before (7-1 against Tiverton Town) but that was due to their goalkeeper getting injured and having a man sent off.”

Weymouth could have had more than the two goals as they routinely created good chances against a Dunstable side that rarely got forward or troubled Weymouth outside of a promising opening ten minutes of the first-half.

Molesley said: “I thought the boys handled their threat well and we created enough chances to win the game so I think we thoroughly deserved the three points. It would have been nice to get a couple more goals but it was not to be.

“We had to bide our time and be patient because they worked hard and really got bodies behind the ball. It was hard to carve out any clear cut openings.”

Goodship got his 29th league goal of the season after the Dunstable defence switched off after a cross from Ben Thomson and Goodship had time and space to fire home from six yards out.

Molesley said: “It obviously gave us that cushion that second goal, it fell to him and he still dispatches it quite emphatically to be honest. There were people on the goal-line It just shows what sort of finisher he is. It was unfortunate we could not get more goals and give the fans something to cheer about because it was a freezing cold afternoon.”

When asked if he will go on and get the golden boot Molesley said: “I would like to think so, he has got to keep working hard and we have got to keep working hard to get those chances.

“He has got every chance.”

Weymouth are next in action when they travel to Chesham United on Saturday (3pm).
