PLAYERS from the ADC singles league teamed up with members from he Dorset Abilities group for a fun-filled night of mixed abilities darts competition at Weymouth Angling Club.

Eventual winners of the pairs competition were ADC's Mel Burton and Dorset Abilities' Thomas Rattenbury, the pair beating Danny Aplin and Rob Vincent 2-0 in the final.

The highlight of the night came in the semi-final deciding leg of Burton and Rattenbury's win over Andrew McDermott and Dan M.

Mel, needing three for the win, hit single one, got down on one knee threw one off the board and then hit double one for the win.

The Dorset abilities group is a day centre run by Luke Tomlin and his team for adults with learning difficulties. Varying their day-to-day activities from dance classes, cooking, arts and crafts plus many many more, they also have three successful football teams that play in the abilities Sunday league.

ADC organisers Paul Paice and Danny Aplin were key in bringing the event to fruition.

Aplin said: "Myself and Paul have known Luke for years now, whether it’s through work or playing football together and it was a no-brainer really. We see the amount of work Luke and his team put into the activity centre and we just wanted to give the users something back.

“From the minute they all came in you could see how happy they were just to be there, for us at the ADC it was such a pleasure to be able to put on such a great night for them.”

Tomlin said: "I'd just like to thank everyone at the ADC and Angling Club for welcoming us all with open arms. Since the start of the new darts league we have followed it with great interest and to be in a position where we could join up and give everyone a chance to play and be involved was something we couldn’t turn down.”
