WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley is expecting a rejuvenated Gosport as he prepares the Terras for today’s home encounter in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division (3pm).

Gosport have seen a hectic past month with manager Alex Pike leaving and being replaced by acting first team managers Rowan Vine, Louis Bell and Jay Keating.

The Boro have also made two signings in Luca Wrightman and former Dorchester man Sam Lanahan, as well as Vine, a 35-year-old former Portsmouth striker.

Molesley said “I expect a really tough challenge.

“It is a heavily-changed Gosport, they had a busy transfer window. They have got a new manager, they have got experienced players back in so they are a completely different outfit, a different challenge. They have got just as much to play for the games as us, they are fighting for their lives.

“In the last part of the season you will probably see them pick up some results so we have got to be right on our guard and make sure it is not against us.

“I am not looking at their league position, they started their season against Biggleswade on Saturday (with a 1-1 draw) really with the new managers and signings.”

Weymouth saw their scheduled trip away to Kettering Town postponed on Saturday which would have been their third encounter with a play-off rival in eight days.

Molesley said: “I think we are in a good place, we just want to keep playing so we are obviously disappointed that the game is off.”

However, Molesley conceded: “With having four games in 10 days the positive is that we get to recharge our batteries a little bit more both mentally and physically so we will take the positives out of it but we are disappointed not to be playing.

“It is out of our control so we will take the positives out of it and hopefully use that against Gosport.”

Weymouth are among the three teams most up to date with their fixtures in the league, having just six remaining alongside King’s Lynn Town and Dunstable Town, which Molesley admits is a nice feeling.

Molesley said: “You have got to give full credit to the groundstaff for that, our pitch has been amazing all season.

“We have been consistent with our games, we have not really gone long periods without a game which is great and if the game is off then it is not the end of the world.”

Weymouth have faced two tough contests against Chesham United and Slough Town in the past 10 days, and thrashed Chesham 6-0 while they gained a valuable 1-0 win against Slough Town through Calvin Brooks.

“We have had two tough games over the last few days anyway so it is not like we are in desperate need of the game.”
