BLANDFORD UNITED 1

DORCHESTER SPORTS 2

DORCHESTER Sports collected a much-needed 2-1 Dorset Premier League win over Blandford United with a dramatic late double.

Trailing 1-0 after 88 minutes, Sports produced a storming show in the closing moments of the match as Jamie Rawlings equalised before Jamie Samways unleashed an unstoppable 20-yard scorcher in injury-time, hitting the bar on its way in.

United had earlier taken the lead courtesy of a controversial penalty, which Mark Ford converted in the 61st minute.

Speaking to Echosport after consecutive defeats to Balti Sports and Shaftesbury Town Reserves, James was delighted with his side’s reply.

He said: “It was a fantastic result considering that we could only take 13 players there. We had to call on some reserve players.

“To battle through and get three points is a good feeling. To keep going until the final minutes was a great response, and hopefully we can get a good result against Sturminster Newton.

Victory lifts Dorchester Sports into fifth, one point above Merley Cobham Sports with a game in hand.

Sports take on Sturminster at the Avenue Stadium tonight (6.30pm).
