DORSET A brought silverware back to the county with a narrow 22-18 success over Cambridgeshire in the Inter County Championship Consolation Final in Tamworth.

The first session started badly for Dorset, with only the pair of Karen Hall and David Glennerster winning 21-6, handing Cambridge a 6-2 lead after the first session.

In the second session Dorset faired much better, winning both fours and one of the triples. The four of James Kley, Sandra Hopkins, Andrew Hall and Jim Hayle winning 18-3 was the highlight of the session, tying the scores at 8-8.

Session three was shared with Dorset winning one single and one pair, with Hall and Glennerster again winning 20-11 to secure the bonus points in the pairs. With Cambridgeshire winning the bonus points in the singles it left the score at 14-14, ensuring a nail-biting finish.

Dorset needed seven points from the possible 12 on offer to win, and the triple of Fred Hopkins, Sam Everett and Brian Smith won 18-7, but the other triple lost 16-7 meaning the bonus points where tied.

Dorset, now on 19 points and almost home, still needed a point after Bobbie Whitburn, Ken Leaver, Graham Rabbetts and Trevor Ford drew 8-8 after leading 8-5.

Sure enough, Kley, Hopkins, Hall and Hayle saw the game home with a 15-8 victory to secure the overall triumph.
