PORTLAND Red Triangle captain Matt Randell is eager to post his side’s first victory of the season away to Christchurch at Hurn Bridge in County Division One.

Randell’s men have so far been beaten by Broadstone Seconds and suffered an agonising one-run defeat to old adversaries Compton House last weekend at Reforne.

Speaking to Echosport regarding the situation, Randell feels recording a win soon is essential to his team’s hopes of matching their top-three aspirations.

He said: “We can’t go much longer without a win. I feel like at the end of the season the league table will open to anyone finishing in the top three.

“The quicker we get that first win, the quicker we can show people that we’re in the league to do well.”

Any ambition of ending Triangle’s win drought will depend upon beating a fiery Christchurch team that Randell earmarked during pre-season as a tricky proposition.

He said: “We always saw Christchurch away as being one of the hardest games of the season. We would have liked to have gone into it with a couple of wins.

“Unfortunately that’s not the case, so we’re just going to have to go into it positive and get a win out of it.

“I encourage people to go out there and play their shots. We’ll do that no matter what the pitch is like and we’re good enough to adapt.”

Portland are without star all-rounder Simon Proffitt, while Pete Jarvis is also missing. Triangle are however boosted by the return of Callan Laws, while Cameron Midgley and Rob Townley are in contention.
