WEYMOUTH Wildcats are preparing for back-to-back meetings as the speedway season hots up.

The ‘Cats travel to the Isle of Wight tonight for an invitational, four-rider event before journeying to Plymouth to face Exeter in their second Southern Development League clash tomorrow.

Weymouth Wildcats’ co-promoter, Martin Peters, feels the Isle of Wight meeting provides a welcome change-up for his squad.

He told Echosport: “We’ve been invited to the Isle of Wight – it’s just something a little bit different.

“They’re good at inviting us guys who haven’t got a track – it’s quite a good thing they’ve done for us.”

In their opening Southern Development League fixture, Wildcats were beaten 22-13 by the Isle of Wight in Weymouth’s adopted home of Eastbourne.

But Peters’ squad face an Exeter side with whom they shared one victory apiece from their two encounters last year.

He said: “It’s going to be good but we’re a little bit short of riders where Bailey and Jacob (Fellows) are doing their exams. James Jessop is in the same boat.

“We’ve borrowed Kean Dicken from Belle Vue and he’s agreed to ride for us to make up the four with Connor Fletcher, Jordan Bull and Luke Barnes.

“It’s quite a strong line-up – we’re hoping to get something out of the meeting. It would be great to win but it’s about the lads improving.”
