THE 60th Anniversary National Wayfarers Championship will take place from today to Sunday in and around Portland Harbour, hosted by Castle Cove Sailing Club.

Visitors will be making full use of the club's excellent facilities including the large dinghy park and the well-appointed clubhouse and bar. A team of nearly 50 volunteers from the club will be helping the event to run smoothly.

Breakfast, lunch and supper options will be available for the visitors at the club with socials planned tonight and tomorrow evening. There will be seven Club boats in use on the water providing safety cover and organisation of the races.

Three days of racing are planned, with three races each day. All boats will be racing as a single fleet but the competitors will be allocated to the gold, silver or bronze fleets based on entrants' previous track record.

Tim Townsend, of the UK Wayfarers National Association, said: "We have nearly 40 boats signed up already and entries are still being received by the organisers. The band and beer are booked for (tomorrow) evening and the weather set fair for the weekend. This has all the prospects of being a great weekend with something for everybody."
