DORCHESTER Town full-back Kyle Egan is targeting a season of progression for the county town side.

Steve Thompson’s men finished 19th last time out in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, but Egan feels a higher finish needs to be achieved in order to confirm Dorchester’s recent improvement.

He told Echosport: “I’m definitely confident that we’ll improve on last year, especially away from home. We know that as a team, and as a collective, we just ran out of time.

“Getting the new 3G pitch will benefit us young lads because it gives us the opportunity to play proper football rather than what some of the games were like at the Avenue this season.

“It’s important that we do better than last year. As a club we need to progress each year, so as long as we’re showing signs of that, it’s onwards and upwards.”

Egan is also relishing the prospect of playing on a placid 3G pitch, which is currently being installed at the Magpies’ Avenue Stadium home.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I like having a flat surface to play on, I think it suits me more as a player.

“I don’t prefer it to grass. If you have a flat grass pitch it’s happy days, but with the 3G you know what you’re going to get every game.

“We know every home game what it’s going to be like and we’ll be used to playing on it, whereas other teams will struggle.

“Tommo wants us to express ourselves going forward and play good football, and we can do that on that pitch.”
