DORCHESTER captain James Dunham insists his side will be “more than ready” for the challenge posed by reigning champions Broadstone in their Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League tussle at Dorchester Rec tomorrow (1pm).

Dunham’s men were beaten for the first time this season by leaders Wimborne & Colehill last weekend, and the Dorchester skipper now has his sights on maintaining a perfect home record.

He told Echosport: “We were outplayed last week and we’ve got little things to improve on. All the boys are aware of what they need to do. I guess we’ll try extra hard this week.

“The whole cliché of winning all your home games is really important. We know the conditions and the ground inside out.

“It’s important we utilise that just like other teams do at their ground. We’ll be more than ready for it.”

Dunham goes into the meeting with Broadstone with cautious optimism, with the left-arm seamer respectful of the “ability” that all Premier League sides have.

He said: “The league is very strong this year. Broadstone are up there and it’s going to be a good test, just as there is every week – there’s a lot of ability.

“Every team has players that can take the game away from you,

but we have that as well. It’s nice to have a competitive game of cricket.”

Yet Dunham is unavailable this week, along with spinner George Foot, but the duo are set to be replaced by a pair of batsmen. Dorchester are otherwise unchanged.

He said: “We’ve been lucky with depth this year, and we’re only making two changes this week. Myself and George are unavailable, so Josh Foot is coming up from the second team.

“He’s scoring some runs so deserves his place and we’re bringing back Quenton Miller, who is really experienced.”

Dorchester: W Caldwell, Belt, Q Miller, Popli, Anderson, Mitchem, McKay, Richardson, J Foot, Walklett, Roe

Meanwhile, Dorchester Seconds continue their County Division Three campaign away to Sturminster Marshall after last week’s bye weekend.

With both sides currently occupying the bottom two positions, the fixture doubles as a bottom-of-the-table battle.
