PORTLAND Red Triangle skipper Matt Randell expects a “tough” away day at Simsay Oval when his side takes on Cerne Valley in County Division One action tomorrow (1.30pm).
Randell is wary of Cerne, who have won two of three home games this season and who boast a good record when hosting Portland.
But the Triangle captain feels that an extra “edge” in the bowling department could help his charges to their third consecutive victory after defeating Shillingstone and Cattistock.
He told Echosport: “It’s nice to get a couple of wins, but Cerne away has always been a tough game for us over the last few years.
“I’d say we’re like for like in terms of players. I think we can hopefully have a little bit of an edge going into it with two wins and a little bit more depth in our bowling.
“Cerne have got a good batting unit but they don’t have the depth in the bowling.”
He added: “We’ve kept good players down the order and haven’t put emphasis on our top order scoring quickly. It’s about building a foundation.
Seamer Rob Townley is unavailable and could be replaced by either Gus Galloway or Pete Jarvis.
