FORMER Olympic sprinter Montell Douglas starred as more than 1,000 people came together at Bryanston School for the Dorset School Games Summer Festival to participate in sports and activities.
The day began with an opening ceremony featuring a motivational speech from Douglas, who is currently part of Team GB Bobsleigh, and a fantastic musical performance from St Michael’s School Samba Band.
In-between competitions, participants tried a range of non-competitive activities in the Cultural Village.
Activities such as kite making, circus skills and street-art provided some great entertainment for students and teachers alike.
Martin Kimberley, Active Dorset chief executive, said: “What a great event!
“It was tremendous to see so many young people relishing the opportunity to compete and take part.
“Bryanston School have been exceptional, and all of the many individuals involved who have worked so hard can be proud of what has been delivered. It really does demonstrate just how much young people enjoy being active.”
Many of the young leaders at this event were trained at the Dorset Leadership Academy in January, which provides support for young people who would like to be actively involved in volunteering and leadership within their school and/or community.
