WEYMOUTH enjoyed a successful Ilfracombe Regatta as the club’s ladies’ crews provided some excellent results.

Weymouth, who attended along with 10 other clubs from Dorset, Bristol, Cornwall, Somerset and Devon witnessed a fantastic day’s racing with beautiful weather and a sea like glass.

Once again the ladies’ crews did Weymouth proud with a series of rows that married great technique with guts and determination.

Some canny coxing also played a part.

Ladies Veterans achieved first place with ladies B gaining second place in their race.

Ladies A had a third place with men’s A and mixed ninth.

Weymouth came seventh overall with Ilfracombe taking first place on home waters.

Rowing captain Lynn Reynolds, said: “I am proud of the results particularly the ladies who triumphed despite little preparation and some rowers in unfamiliar seats.”

The club would like to say a big thank you to everyone who sorted the crews, arranged travel, coxed on the day and of course all the crews. Also thanks to Ilfracombe for hosting the event.

Next stop for Weymouth will be Bridport on Sunday, July 8, which is also a Jurassic League event.
