PORTLAND Red Triangle captain Matt Randell is targeting an improved league placing when his side entertain Broadstone Seconds in County Division One at Reforne tomorrow (1.30pm).

With Broadstone lying 16 points above Triangle, Randell knows a big victory over their rivals could see them move up a spot. Any victory would see Portland extend their run of good form to four victories from five games, and Randell feels the good results are reflected in his batsmen hitting their stride.

He said: “I looked at the tables and I think a good win and if a few results go our way we can jump up two spaces. That would be really nice to get that win and keep moving up as much as possible, just small gains. We just look more positive from where we started up. Some of the boys are starting to feel quite good with the bat, I’m feeling good and some of the other lads like Callan (Laws), Si (Proffitt) and Leakey (Chris Leake) are as well.”

In the reverse fixture, Portland amassed a huge total of 296-8 only to be overhauled by three wickets in a thrilling game at Delph Woods. Randell is aiming to draw experience from that outcome and insists his team can bowl more effectively at Reforne.

He said: “Hopefully we can learn something from that and have a good all-round performance rather than just with the bat. We know our pitch a little bit better than the Delph and having those short boundaries we didn’t adapt well. We know what areas we need to be bowling.”
