The day was opened by Coast’s under-7s shirt sponsors Lou Sams Zumba Heat who treated all the participants to a spectacular 15-minute Zumba-Heat warm up before the competition commenced.

The youngest age group, the under-7s, was a friendly non-competitive affair, introducing the vast majority of girls to their first match practice.

For this age group all of the girls were awarded participation medals by Heatherson at their own presentation following completion of Jurassic Coast’s round-robin with teams from Pen Mill Ladies and Cardiff Bluebells.

All the other age groups were trophy events with individual trophies and medals presented to the winners, runners-up and plate winners of each age group.

Heatherson, of Yeovil Town Ladies, said: “This is fantastic, definitely the largest dedicated girls’ football tournament that I have been to and so well run.

“We never had anything like this when I was these girls age making my way in football.”

Nathan Wood, club chairman of Jurassic Coast Girls, expressed his delight at what he felt had been a successful event.

He said: “We thoroughly enjoy putting on this event which not only provides a proper dedicated girls’ football tournament for our teams, but for teams across the region and beyond.

“We decided to include age groups that our club currently do not even have to make it a real community festival of girls’ football.

“We would really like to thank our sponsors All Secure Storage and McDonald, Annie from our sister club Yeovil Town Ladies, our small band of volunteers, parents and coaches, who without whom this festival could not take place.

“But most of all its really about celebrating all that is good about the growth of the female game and ensuring a fun and friendly environment for girls’ teams to enjoy their football.”
