WEYMOUTH captain Harry Mitchell is targeting an improved performance in the field against Cranborne at Redlands in County Division Two tomorrow (1.30pm).

Mitchell felt the Seasiders lacked energy in their slender five-run win over Charlton Down last time out, while his charges have conceded 98 extras in the past two games.

On Cranborne, who beat Weymouth in May, Mitchell told Echosport: “It would be nice to get one back on them, they caught us a bit off guard.

“We had a weak side that game but now we’ve got one of our stronger sides of the year. I think we can give them a really good game and come out with really good points.

“Our batting has been good, the lower order has done well and the bowling’s not been bad – maybe tighten up with the wides and extras and be a bit more sharp in the field, more aggressive and switched on.”

Weymouth welcome back opening bowlers Graham Puckett and Neil Walton, while Jonny Armfield and Sami Rathnayake are also set to return.

“Everyone in that team contributes in some way. It’s a big boost in the bowling department, there’s three opening bowlers in the team and it should give us a bit more of a cutting edge,” Mitchell said.
