SAM Ward sealed two superb comebacks in the Weymouth Summer ADC League as he came from behind in two of his three matches to snatch victory.

However, Ward was helpless to do anything in his defeat to Paul Paice, who produced a stunning display to claim a 3-1 win.

Paice missed darts to whitewash the league leader but did not buckle under the pressure and managed to get over the line, which has been his downfall in recent weeks.

One of the games of the league so far saw Mark Samways 2-0 up on Ward, who managed to dodge a handful of bullets as Samways suddenly could not hit that all important winning double and let Ward level up at 2-2 for Samways to be left on tops.

However the leader took out a stunning 140 shot and the win and Ward completed another comeback with a 3-1 victory against Terry Tucker in his final match.

Paice had started the night with a 3-0 win over Matty Betts but then lost out against Drew Tweedy in a tight 3-2 affair, claimed three out of three with a great 3-2 win over Samways and a 3-0 over Tucker.

A 3-1 win over Betts gave Tucker a boost and likewise for Betts who ended with a 3-2 defeat of Samways to give a team score of First Time Luckies 6-3 Silver Foxes.

Second-placed Mel Burton lost ground on leader Ward as he went down to a surprising 3-1 defeat to Adam McKay, as he hit a lovely 147 shot out in the first leg. It looked like the the writing was on the wall for McKay but he produced a great win.

Burton then took on Andrew McDermott who, after losing his opening match 3-2 to Stewart Masters, was on a run of four games without a win and, with Burton losing to McKay, both players needed the victory.

However, Burton never got going and McDermott stepped in and won 3-1, who followed up the victory with a 3-0 success over Dave Butler.

Scott Gannon ran Burton close and missed doubles to claim a great win, but it was Burton who sneaked the last double in and the 3-2 victory.

Butler was the one to inflict the first blow on Gannon in their opening match before losing to a confident McKay 3-0 as S Club 3 took a 5-4 FIIK.

Danny Aplin won both his two matches of the evening 3-1 against Andy Masters and Wayne Jordan respectably.

Aplin found his range when trailing 1-0 to Masters and hit important scores at the right time and none more so than in the fourth as he hit a 15-dart leg with a 120 out shot to win. Jordan had darts to draw level at 2-2 but Aplin held his nerve and took the win.

Jordan ended the night on a high as he hit a 161 shot out, the highest out shot of the season, in his 3-1 win over Mel Gregg, who had a tough evening as Andy Masters won his first two legs against her hitting two double 18s in both legs to take 72 out and eventually the win 3-0. Despite defeat to Aplin, Masters finished with two wins as he nudged out Honnor 3-1 in their contest and the final team score finished WAM 3 Mel’s Mower Men 3.

Nigel Davies had a good night on board two as he claimed impressive 3-1 wins over Arnie Quinn and Simon Sharpe respectably before a 3-0 loss to Chris Stones. Simon Churchill won all three of his matches ending the night with two 3-0 triumphs once again against Quinn and Sharpe but was tested as he beat Stones 3-2.

Quinn’s victory came in a 3-0 win over Mark Long, played well but suffered two defeats as Sharpe won their contest 3-2 but Long ended on a high with a 3-0 win over Stones and a final team score of the Natives 6-3 The Dogs.
