DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson was at a loss to explain how his side’s draw with Plymouth Argyle remained 0-0 as the teams played out a tremendous first-ever fixture on the new 3G surface at the Avenue Stadium.
In a gripping game, both outfits created several opportunities, with Dorchester conjuring the biggest through two Alex Stafie attempts, which forced magnificent flying stops from Argyle keeper Michael Cooper.
Plymouth, meanwhile, wasted a golden chance to score when Klaidi Lolos scuffed a shot having rounded Magpies’ gloveman Kingsley Latham.
Speaking to Echosport following the clash, Thompson said: “I don’t know how it ended up 0-0, it could’ve been three-all.
“The first half I’m a bit disappointed with, I felt Plymouth were the better team and we created one or two half-chances.
“Second half we were far more dynamic, got at them, won the ball back a lot better and played very well. Both teams could have had two or three goals and I think it was an entertaining game.
“It was end-to-end, particularly second half when I thought we were the dominant team.”
On the freshly-laid 3G pitch, Thompson added: “I haven’t asked the players their thoughts but they didn’t seem unhappy with it, they were buzzing at the end of the game.
“The ball seemed to run true – I was on it for the warm-up – and you go on some 3Gs and there’s all sorts of lines everywhere. When you have blue lines here, yellow lines there it doesn’t feel like a football pitch, but this does.
“I’m no expert on 3Gs but that seemed to play well. But the players are the ones playing on it, I would have to ask them.”
