FORMER Weymouth manager Steve Johnson has passed away at the age of 60, former club Arundel FC have announced.
The ex-Terras’ boss led them in the Conference South between November 2004 until he was sacked in March 2005.
He had taken over from caretaking trio Paul Buckle, John Waldock and Gary Borthwick who themselves had been placed in charge following Steve Claridge’s dismissal in the October.
His spell had started well, with a 3-0 win over St Albans City, but Weymouth began to struggle for form and he was dismissed in March.
At the end of the season in which he joined and left the club finished seventh.
Johnson also managed Latvia’s under-18 side as well as teams such as Arundel, Crowborough and Burgess Hill.
In his playing career he was a striker and turned out for the likes of Brentford, Leicester and Southampton.
Following his dismissal he was replaced by Garry Hill, who went on to lead Weymouth to the Conference.
