WEYMOUTH 1

Goodship 16

BATH CITY 2

Stearn 27 Mills 34

GOALS from Ross Stearn and John Mills saw Bath City edge Weymouth in a well-fought encounter, that saw Brandon Goodship score once and have a penalty saved.

Terras’ boss Mark Molesley conceded that the second half was disappointing but was pleased with what he saw in the first half.

Molesley said: “I thought the first half was an even affair, there were some good bits in the first half, we created some chances and missed a penalty so we were a bit unfortunate to go in at half-time behind.

“They are a good side Bath, they look like they will push for honours in the league above so it was good to test ourselves against them. I thought that in the first half we were more than a match but the second half was disappointing.”

Referring to the two injuries Molesley admitted it punctured their play a bit but said it will be good to learn from.

Molesley said: “We had to plug two holes in the second half and had to mix things up a little bit and probably lost our momentum and our rhythm a little bit but it is a good learning curve for us.”

Both teams started well and the Terras showed off their potential early on, with a superbly slick passing move between Bedford, Goodship, Ben Thomson and Abdulai Baggie.

Bath went close to taking the lead after five minutes, when Terras’ stopper Jordan Seabright had to be alert to tip a headed effort onto the post.

Weymouth took the lead after 16 minutes with a brutal counter-attack that saw Thomson pull the ball back across the box to Goodship who fired in.

However, 11 minutes later Stearn curled in a wonderful equaliser for the Romans, hitting a 30-yard strike with the outside of his boot into the top corner.

Seven minutes later the Romans were ahead, as Ryan Brunt got into the box and crossed in with Mills able to nip in ahead of Seabright and head into the net.

Tony Lee had to be substituted with a knock and his replacement Jordan Ngalo also had to be replaced for Harry Baker.

Weymouth got a penalty late on when Ryan Clarke fouled Baker inside the box however, Goodship’s penalty low to the right was saved by Clarke.

Weymouth struggled to get going in the second half, which until late on was the complete antithesis of the first.

Bath did well to subdue the home side, who had the majority of the possession and the attacking play but despite this failed to seriously trouble Seabright.

Baker did well to win the ball on the edge of the Bath box late on, before giving the ball towards Goodship who tried to play the ball forward but straight to the Romans’ defence.

Weymouth ended the match brightly however, with Baggie charging forward and pulling a ball back across the box which could not find anyone.

In the last minute the Terras should have equalised, when Goodship, Baker and Thomson all found themselves through at the same time with just the goalkeeper to beat.

However, hesitation meant the eventual shot was saved by Clarke and soon after the full time whistle blew.
