WEYMOUTH captain Harry Mitchell feels his side look “stronger than ever” as they chase a seventh straight County Division Two win over rivals Witchampton at Redlands tomorrow (1.30pm).

Weymouth have moved above the Witches into second after six victories on the spin, while the former leaders have suffered a downturn in form, having been dismissed for 80, 115 and 63 against Cranborne, Blandford and Marnhull respectively.

But Mitchell is not fooled by the scorelines and feels Weymouth will need the extra strength in depth to inflict another defeat on Witchampton.

He told Echosport: “They’ve probably missed a few of their key players at the top of the order and they had a decent bowling attack.

“I think we’re looking stronger than ever. Having people in key positions specialising in that role, it just shows we’ve got strength in depth.

“Kieron (Womble) as opener and Dave (Blackman) as keeper. With Sami at 10 we’ll bat down and GP (Graham Puckett) is no mug either. We can get a good total and I’d back our bowlers to defend it. I’m really excited.”

But young prospect Jack Sapsworth, along with Paul Collins, Jack Taylor and the unavailable Lloyd Beals will make way, as John Wilson, Womble, Jonny Armfield and Blackman return.

Mitchell said: “I phoned Sappy and said he’s done nothing wrong at all. He had 37 off not many at Charlton Down and he doesn’t deserve to be dropped.“We’ve got a specialist keeper to come in and it’s hard. Sappy understands – he can have a good bat with the seconds and help them get a win. Jack and Paul as well to score a few runs.”

Weymouth: Womble, Wilson, D Webb, Browne, J Armfield, Walton, Mitchell, Blackman, Urumancheri, Rathnayake, Puckett

Elsewhere, winless Weymouth Seconds travel to Witchampton Seconds in County Division Five.

The Seasiders will also be holding their intra-club T20 finals day on Sunday at Wey Valley School (12pm).
