DORCHESTER Town have unveiled Southampton goalkeeper Kingsley Latham as their latest loan signing in a deal that stretches to January.
Latham, 19, is under contract with the Saints until July 2019 and becomes the Magpies’ second signing in a day after the one-month loan move of forward Cameron Allen.
Standing at well over six foot tall, Latham has been a regular for Steve Thompson’s men in pre-season and has largely impressed despite fumbling a 45-yard effort behind the goalline in a 2-0 loss to Yeovil Town.
Commenting on the deal for the promising gloveman, Thompson revealed he had been tipped off about Latham by a former Magpies’ stopper.
He told Echosport: “Obviously Kingsley is a goalkeeper and we needed to bring one in. Chris Weale recommended him – I knew nothing about him.
“I spoke to Southampton Academy and they were keen for him to go out and get that experience of men’s football that Kingsley needs.
“He’s a very big lad, 6’4’’ or 6’5’’ and he’s learning the game. I think he’s a good prospect and hopefully he can develop very quickly as has happened with other players that have joined the club.”
