SAM Ward continued his dominance at the top of the ADC Summer League by claiming another three out of three wins and only dropping one leg along the way at the Weymouth Angling Club.

The first game and leg between Ward and Andrew McDermott could not have been further away from their normal high standards.

Both players ended up on a double one and missed at least 12 darts before Ward hit it at the 13th attempt which would see him win 3-0 against an in-form McDermott.

A superb 3-0 versus Scott Gannon and 3-1 against Adam McKay rounded off a good night for Ward.

With a number of catch-up games still to take place there were stand-out performances from Paul Dormer, McKay and Matty Paice.

Although McKay lost three out of his five games he had a great end to the night beating Andy Masters 3-1, with his other highlights including a 154 shot-out against Drew Tweedy.

Tweedy ended up going on to win their contest 3-2 after being two down.

It was a long night for McKay but he secured 3-2 success against Matty Betts before a 3-2 loss against Wayne Jordan.

Jordan fought back from two down to McKay for another good night for him as he won three out of his four matches.

Impressive victories over Arnie Quinn (3-1) and Simon Sharpe (3-2) boosted Jordan up to 10th in the table, despite starting off with a 3-1 defeat to Stones.

Masters’ surprise defeat to McKay was his second of the night as he lost his opening match 3-0 to Quinn before going on to hit two 16-dart legs in his 3-0 win over Stones.

Masters heaped more misery on Sharpe as he beat him 3-1 and condemned the latter to a winless night as he also lost his first match 3-1 to Paice.

Despite a 3-0 defeat to Danny Aplin, Paice had a good night as he also beat Quinn 3-2.

Aplin once again struggled but somehow came out of the evening with four wins out of four contests, which could have been so different if Simon Churchill had managed to hit his doubles, leading 2-0 and nearly 200 points ahead, Aplin managed to get back in the contest and claim a 3-2 win.

It was the same story for Aplin against Mark Long as he came from one down to win 3-1, while a 136 shot-out against Nigel Davies saw Aplin end the night with a 3-0 success.

Trevor Honnor won two of his three matches with a 3-2 triumph over Long and then a 3-0 win against Davies before ending with a disappointing 3-0 loss to Churchill.

Dormer played the most fixtures of the evening and came out with some great results, winning four of his five games.

Dormer’s only defeat came in his first match, with a 3-2 defeat against Mel Burton, with the match level at 2-2, Burton hit a 17-dart leg to take the win.

However, this did not hamper Dormer as he then went on to win his next three fixtures 3-0 against Stewart Masters, Dave Butler and Tweedy respectably before ending the evening with a 3-1 success against Betts.

Mel Burton, who hit three 180s, followed on from his opening win with a 3-0 against Heidi Paice and he then beat his brother Chris Burton 3-2 in a close contest.

Chris Burton suffered three 3-2 defeats on the night with the other two coming against Butler and Long.

When leading 2-0 against Butler, suddenly Burton’s scoring went astray letting Butler to snatch the match from the jaws of defeat.

After another packed night of darts, thee was a total of four 180s and seven 100 + checkouts hit in the evening.

180s: M Burton 3, Ward

100+ out shots: McKay 154, Aplin 136, McDermott 116, 112, Dormer 112, 110, C Burton 106.
