STEVE Thompson cut a pleased figure after Dorchester Town stormed to a 4-2 victory at Wimborne Town in their Evo-Stik Southern Premier South tussle at Cuthbury.

The Magpies shone in the first half, going in 4-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Cameron Murray and Billy Lowes, plus a Luke Winsper brace.

Dorchester’s Tom Blair also hit the bar and Cameron Allen missed a golden headed chance as Thompson’s men utterly dominated proceedings.

With the result hardly in doubt, Wimborne did pull two goals back through Sam Davidson and ex-Magpie Toby Holmes, but Thompson was “very pleased” to secure a first league win of the season, extending his side’s unbeaten league away run to five games.

He told Echosport: “I’m delighted with the performance, we played well all the way through, but first half to go in 4-0 at half-time. Really it could’ve been a couple more.

“Cam missed a sitter inside the six-yard box and Tom hit the bar so I’m very pleased with the first half.

“I’m pleased in a way with the second half. I felt we carried on creating chances. We tired a bit at the end but we’d worked very hard.

“These boys are young players. I’ve worked hard on the fitness side of things to get players sharp.

“We didn’t show that on Saturday but we certainly showed it (yesterday).”
