PORTLAND United president Dave Camp has urged football fans to get behind his side’s bid for glory in the FA Cup this weekend.

The Blues entertain Toolstation Western League Premier Division outfit Bitton in the preliminary round of the competition on Saturday.

Brendon King’s men earned their place after beating Clevedon 2-1 in the previous round.

Camp said: “This is a big occasion for us and I feel that we have put together a good management team and are getting together what, we hope, will turn out to be a very strong side.

“The committee have high hopes for them. While we have a marvellous group of loyal supporters I am, once again, appealing for a crowd of 200-plus.

“I see from the fixtures that both Weymouth and Bridport are away on this date.

“If you are not travelling to support your team then give yourself a treat and come and support the Blues.

“As you know you always get a very friendly welcome from us.

“Give us the same support you give your clubs and help us to overcome Bitton and progress to the next round.

“Bitton have made a fantastic start in the Western Premier League having won all their games so far and beat Tavistock in the last round of the FA Cup 7-0.

“As you can see it will be game on but we are confident and are looking forward to the challenge.”
