SOUTH DORSET GIANTS 38
EXETER CENTURIONS 24
SOUTH Dorset Giants recorded their first win in only their second game together - beating the Exeter Centurions at Monmouth Avenue.
In their last match, their first as a newly formed rugby league outfit, the Giants succumbed to the Southampton Spitfires 80-4.
But this time, despite missing experienced league player Anthony Cowburn through injury, the hosts started strongly and came out on top against their National Conference South West Division opponents.
Try scorers for the Giants were James Ford, Will Hughes, Rich Polley (2), Ryan Lewendon, and Dan Cree with Nathan Walmsley kicking a penalty and all the conversions.
Captain Dave Allan said: "What a fantastic effort from the lads, we were a totally different team from the last game. The lads fronted up and the defence was awesome, when the game started to open up we showed goodhanding skills and our running lines were brilliant.
"I am full of praise for all of the team, and we look forward to our next game at home to Southampton on July 19."
The Giants are still looking for new players and sponsors. Anyone interested can visit southdorsetgiants.co.uk for more details.
