SOUTHILL Primary School, Radipole Primary School and Wyke Regis Junior School were the top performers at the Annual High-Five Netball Tournament at Budmouth Technology College.

The event was organised and supported by Community Sport Leader students from Budmouth’s Sixth Form and sponsored by the Weymouth and Portland Rotary Club.

Spokesman Sam Ives said: “The schools that entered were categorised into groups dependent on their size and within these groups points were awarded throughout the afternoon and totalled at the end of the day.

“The winner of the small schools tournament was Southill Primary School who played strong netball throughout and convincingly won all their games, beating St Augustine’s Primary School 1-0 in the final.

“The winners were presented with the Tournament Trophy, the runners-up received a certificate and all the other participants gained a certificate of participation.

“The finalists for the larger schools tournament were Wyke Regis and Radipole, who were equally matched in a tense encounter which ended in a draw. “It was decided that an extra game would be played, lasting four minutes, in the hope of a finding a clear winner. However, this was not the case and the score remained a tie, so both team coaches decided that sharing the winners’ trophy was the best course of action, which underlined the true friendly spirit of the tournament.

“The Weymouth and Portland Rotary Club also awarded a Fair Play Award to Chickerell Primary School, who displayed great sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.”
