THERE was plenty of home success in the Weymouth Middle Distance and Sprint Triathlons with local team Bustinskin claiming several top-placed finishes.

The Weymouth club’s biggest success came in the Sprint Triathlon where they won the team event thanks to incredible performances from Alex Hopson, Mark Kinder and Mike Organ.

Hopson (1hr 7mins 17secs) finished runner-up, just 1.23mins adrift of winner Patrick Newman (1.05.54) of BAD Tri, who incredibly was racing in the 60-64 category, while Kinder (1.20.45) came 22nd and Organ (1.29.05) finished 46th.

Bridport’s Jason Wright of Team Bspoke came fifth overall and first in the 40-44 category, while the first lady home was Tri UK’s Tracy Cook (1.11.15), who finished sixth overall and 15 places ahead of her nearest rival Lorraine Eyres (1.20.06) of Somerset RC Tri.

The Middle Distance event saw further glory for Bustinskin with Andy Sloan (4.41.05) producing a great race to finish 36th, which was good enough to claim third in the 20-24 category behind eighth-placed Sam Lane (4.18.30) and overall winner Edward Charlton-Weedy (4.04.59) of the Army Triathlon Association. Jane Orme (6.32.58), also representing Bustinskin, finished in 252nd place to capture eighth spot in the 25-29 category.

Bustinskin founder Mark Steen said: “Alex, Mark and Mike did fantast- ically well and to win the team event in the Sprint Triathlon was a great achievement.

“Andy Sloan also did superbly in the Middle Distance Triathlon, as did Jane Orme, so overall it was a fantastic event for the club.”

This Sunday will see the Osprey Leisure Centre on Portland host Chesil Coastal Challenge 2.

Around 60 athletes will take part in the 28-mile endurance race and Steen is anticipating another great spectacle.

He said: “Bustinskin are organising the race and we are expecting a lot of local entrants. Adam Holland, who is attempting to run 100 marathons in a year, will also be taking part, and after the race, which is expected to take around four to six hours to complete, there will be a warm down session in the Osprey pool from 2pm to 3pm.”

The race will start at the Osprey Leisure Centre at 9.30am and follow the coastal path to Abbotsbury before turning around and making the return journey to Portland.
