Top Four show

DORCHESTER continue to make progress in the National Two Fours Competition, and their latest result entailed a 120-mile round trip to Spencer Moulton Bowling Club in Wiltshire.

George Spracklen, Martin Pavey, Eddie Young, and Stacey Dickinson drew the short straw and had to play the rink skipped by England international Graham Shadwell, who had recently led a winning rink against Dorset in Wiltshire’s hard earned victory in the Inter County Top Two Fours.

Dickinson showed spirit early on when facing a 7-2 deficit and forced himself back into contention at 7-7, before Shadwell and co regained the initiative to lead 17-11.

Dickinson pulled back to within two shots before dropping a two on the final end and losing out 20-16.

In-form Steven Huttley, Adam Tidby, talented 20-year-old Nick Voss, and club captain Wayne Garnett were left to get a result over Russell Francis and co.

In a sparkling performance Garnett came from behind to move 11-5 clear and remain in front at 11-8.

Two singles and a massive double take out for a six count by Garnett put Dorchester 19-8 up before another hammer blow from Garnett on the 19th end sealed Spencer Moulton’s fate, in a final 24-11 score.

The combined scores of Dickinson and Garnett produced an overall win for Dorchester by 40 shots to 31 and a place in round four.

Top Club Competition

Poole Park 76 (2pts) Dorchester 94 (3pts)

THE five-discipline Top Club game played at Poole Park Bowling Club resulted in another fine for the county town side.

Once again 20-year-old Steven Huttley produced a fine performance to give Dorchester a kick start 18-7 win in the two wood singles against M Connor.

Stacey Dickinson followed this up with a four-wood singles triumph over Chris Weeks of Poole Park by an equally splendid display when winning 21-9. Weeks secured nine winning ends – all singles – highlighting the tight control Dickinson kept on the game.

The third and vital Dorchester win came once again in the pairs when Nick Voss and Adam Tidby overcame Derek Eatwell and Bob Atkins with some high scoring ends and a strong showing in the middle part of the game. Voss and Tidby eased home by 25 shots to 15.

Poole Park gained some consolation in the triples and fours though. Chris Lawrence, Paul Spetch and Alex McKenzie came back from 14-10 down to the Dorchester trio of George Spracklen, Eddie Young and Wayne Garnett, to gaine the spoils 20-15.

Poole Park’s other success came in the fours where Garry Mumford, Ged Costello, Jamie Lockwood and Martin Pavey were outscored over the final four ends to lose 25-15 to Phil Lawrence and co.

Dorchester now face a long journey for their fifth round fixture against either Spencer Moulton or Wootton Bassett – both Wiltshire clubs.
