Second A-star

ALESSIO Boniolo and Aaron Sandrey claimed their second successive A Series triumph in the Weymouth RAF Careers Beach League.

A record 43 teams competed in the latest round of the competition, making for a spectacular evening on the beach.

In the A series Boniolo and Sandrey won their second event in a row by narrowly beating Russell Laming and Ryan Stout in the final 15-13, with both pairs having to play extremely well to overcome their respective semi-final contests.

Boniolo and Sandrey came through by defeating Tristan Sheppard and James Tagart 15-12 while Stout and Laming overcame series leaders Terry Oldrid and David Markwick 15-13. With second-placed Rob Semmence away on holiday, the overall lead has tightened up, leaving it wide open going into the final four weeks.

A 16-team B series event was won by Toby Gallager and Toby Richards from Yeovil who, with consistent basic skills, were able to overcome the more powerful but less consistent teams.

In the final they defeated veteran Clive Budden and Mike Randall 15-8.

The C Series was won by Weymouth College students Stephen Williamson and Hayden Francis, who convincingly beat Tom Smith and Steve Jones 15-1 in the final.

However, Williamson and Francis did not have things all their own way, as they lost their opening pool match to Jackie Bowler and Amelia Stout 15-13.

The Under-16 series was won for the second week in a row by Matt Cafer and Callum Scott who defeated Charlie Holland and Max Ironside 15-11 in the final.
