IT was hot and it was hilly but 259 gallant runners stuck with it and completed this year’s gruelling Portland 10.
Organised annually by the Royal Manor of Portland AC, the race was started off by long serving marshall Winston Anthony who later joined club president Les Ames to present the awards.
Bournemouth AC runners made a clean sweep of the first three places with Stuart ‘Foxy’ Fox, looking little the worse for wear, a clear winner in 56.22mins.
An air traffic controller, he said: “This is my second go at the Portland 10 and I did find the last mile very hilly and difficult but the great support from spectators and other runners spurred me on.”
Post office manager and team-mate Rob McTaggart, 23, followed Fox into second place and he admitted that while the course was tough in the heat tempered by only a very slight breeze, he found it an enjoyable challenge.
Completing the triumphant trio was Hampshire County Council employee John Sharkey who said: “Hot, hot, hot but the organisation by the RMPAC was excellent every step of the way”
Shop assistant Jennie Moore, 44, from Wells City Harriers was the first lady home.
