Ryall: Find your spark

SKIPPER Jim Ryall wants his Weymouth side to rediscover their spark tomorrow when they look to put last Saturday’s frustrating loss against Poole Town behind them by overcoming Blandford (1.30pm).

A disappointing display in the field enabled Poole to rack up 317 at Redlands and despite an incredible century from Paul Payne the Seasiders fell 106 runs short.

That defeat has seen them fall to fourth in the Dorset Premier League table but Ryall is hopeful that the talented Seasiders can get back on track at the first attempt.

He said: “We all felt it was a very disappointing game against Poole and that we did not do ourselves justice except for a good second spell of bowling from Matt Lawes and Paul Payne’s knock of 101, which was stupendous.

“Those are the type of efforts we are looking for from all the players and they have set a benchmark, which the rest of us have got to strive to achieve.

“That is why it is very much back to basics for us tomorrow. We need the bowlers to bowl tight lines and the fielders to get behind them with 100 per cent commitment and support.

“We are not batting too badly. We are getting partnerships and as long as we do not give our wickets away cheaply we should always do well.

“I just want us to rediscover the spark we had in the win against Wimborne & Colehill a couple of weeks ago.

“We keep saying about the importance of having fun and enjoyment but in-order to achieve that you also have to put the hard work in just like Paul did last week.

“He stuck around and toughed it out while wickets kept falling around him but he was so dejected at the end.

“To score a century and still lose is not a nice feeling and this week I want to see everyone wear the shirt with pride and put in the maximum amount of effort because if we do that I am sure we will come away with a positive result.”

The Seasiders will welcome back both Sean Fitzgerald and Rob Nobbs tomorrow as they replace Vijay Mote and Dan Hutchens.

Ryall added: “Sean replaces Vijay, who has gone back down to the seconds, while Rob comes back in for Dan, who is on holiday.

“Sean has fully recovered from injury now and hopefully he will help add that dynamic edge in the field that we were missing last week. He is also a very capable spinner and middle order batsman.

“As for Rob, he returns to the attack with his swing bowling after dropping down last week to make way for an extra spinner.”

Weymouth: Payne, Ulhaq, England, Fulton, Bray, Janaway, Ryall, Whyte, Fitzgerald, Lawes, Nobbs.
