JEMMA Tewkesbury celebrated being named Dorset girls’ team captain at the English Schools National Championships by winning the senior javelin event.
The former Dorchester AC member has represented Dorset Schools at the championships for each of the six years for which she has been eligible.
A fine throw of 41.87 metres, almost two metres above the National Standard, secured the gold medal ahead of Charlotte Gimson of West Midlands and Katie Grehan of Hertfordshire.
Tewkesbury won the under-15 javelin championship in 2005 and was a medallist on two other occasions.
Tewkesbury has just completed her A-Level studies at Thomas Hardye School Jemma is a past student of Wey Valley School.
Throwing for Bournemouth AC in the National Junior League in June she won the Athlete of the Match award, and has won county and regional titles but has had a relatively low-key season until now with studies taking priority.
