JORDAN Metters could be the latest Weymouth player to try and re-ignite his season with a spell in Dave Kiteley’s reserve side.
Winger Matt Groves has forced his way back into the first team reckoning after a couple of impressive performances under Kiteley, and Metters will be hoping to make the same impression when the Terras’ reserves host Westland Sports at the Wessex Stadium tomorrow (2pm).
And Kiteley is expecting a good game between second-placed Weymouth and fourth-placed Westland.
“It will be an outstanding game of football because Westland do play very good football and obviously we like to get it down and play,” said Kiteley. “I’m just looking forward to seeing whether some of our younger players took on board what happened when we played Hamworthy Recreation away.”
That match at table-toppers Hamworthy on October 17, which ended 5-0 in favour of Rec, is Weymouth’s only defeat of the season so far.
Although first team players David Obaze and Kyle Critchell are suspended, the Terras’ signing of Rushden’s Jamie McGuinness means the reserves should not have their already stretched squad further weakened by call-ups.
“Defensive wise we’ve been left light the last two or three weeks with people like Jordan Vincent, Jamie Frampton, Scott Dixon and Nathan Loader stepping up to the first team,” said Kiteley, who expects to have Metters in his squad to replace Groves tomorrow.
Although Metters has made four appearances from the substitutes' bench in recent weeks, he has only played a total of 42 minutes first team football in claret and blue.
“Jordan Metters might step down because he needs to get some minutes under his belt,” said the reserve boss. “Matt Groves has got a bit of confidence back and in the reserve games he’s shown what he’s capable of doing.
“Personally I think, having spoken to Hutch, he’s done enough to be back in the first team fold.”
Young prospects Joe Smith and Nathan Hughes could be involved but Callum Ross-Jennings (knee) and John Lamb (thigh) remain sidelined.
