WEYMOUTH Reserves’ boss Dave Kiteley believes past success against Swanage Town & Herston will be irrelevant when the two sides face-off tomorrow (1.30pm).
Kiteley’s troops steamrollered the Swans with four second-half strikes at the Wessex Stadium last month after the match was goalless at the interval.
However, the Terras Reserves’ boss downplayed the significance of that result and insisted both teams start with a clean slate for their Dorset Premier League Cup first round clash at Days Park.
Recalling that victory, he said: “It wasn’t a true reflection on the game, which could’ve gone either way. We scored twice very quickly in the second period and it knocked the stuffing out of them.
“If I was their manager I would have felt very deflated afterwards because they didn’t deserve to lose 4-0. It was a good, entertaining game of football.”
Such has been the volume of rain to fall that a pitch inspection will be carried out this afternoon with a view to making an early decision.
And Kiteley reckons a questionable playing surface that struggled to withstand last weekend’s torrential downpours could act as a leveller.
He added: “The conditions will dictate the sort of game that’s played. I spoke to a representative from Swanage who said there was still a lot of water on the surface.
“The pitch is notorious for holding water and it was still waterlogged earlier this week.
“Swanage are very well organised at home and physical. They’ll know more about the side we are after playing us not too long ago.”
Joe Smith and Nathan Hughes are in contention to feature but John Lamb (thigh) and Callum Ross-Jennings (knee) are both out.
