Sunday sides champing at the bit

CARPETS Direct Weymouth Sunday League clubs will be looking forward to some long overdue match practice this weekend following three consecutive weeks of postponements – that is if the rain holds off.

One side champing at the bit to get back into the fray are league leaders FC WindowMan who are hoping Redlands will be deemed fit to stage their Premiership clash with seventh-placed Railway Tavern (10.30am).

Adam Parker’s men will boast an almost full strength squad to pick from but definitely out will be Wayne Day (knee) and, aside from the weather, there are doubts hanging over the availability of strikers Danny Andrews and Russell North, as well as Sean Stewart.

The good news for WindowMan though, is that Nicky Abbot, Ryan Loader and keeper Anthony Luque all return from suspension to bolster the ranks.

Assistant-boss Rob Pavey said: “We are keeping our fingers crossed we can get back to playing and the game beats the weather because we had built up some real momentum before the middle of November.”

“The Railway have improved since the start of the season and their recent draw against the Rodwell not only did us a favour but showed what they're capable of. “This week will be the first time in a long time we’ll have a full strength squad to choose from, but we know we’ve got suspensions coming up next week.

“With that in mind Adam Parker has been identifying potential new signings and has lined up a new keeper ready for next week’s Intermediate Cup third round game.”

If tomorrow’s game gets the nod it will be WindowMan’s first outing since their 5-1 extra-time Intermedi-ate Cup triumph over Three Cross on November 8.

Meanwhile, mid-table Dorothy will be looking to complete a league double over the Chapelhay when the two sides meet at Budmouth in what will be the final game for the former’s vice-captain Karl Dean before he leaves for the United States.

Dean is sure to be sorely missed by his Dot team-mates and boss Wayne Gifford paid tribute when he said: “He is always one of the first names on the team-sheet and he is deservedly our vice-captain. Furthermore, Karl is a fantastic all-round player and he will be a big loss for us.

“Fortunately though we have a very strong squad with Paul Aston returning and so we are confident we can complete a double over the Taverners if the weather holds of course.”

The heavy rain throughout November halted Bar 314’s progress up the top- flight ladder and boss Mike Winter will be hoping his side can reproduce their October form when Bar visit Budmouth for a local derby date with seasoned Tuatara.

Winter said: “We haven’t played for three weeks but we will face the T-Bar in confident mood. However, we will, of course, be wary as I’m sure they will be out to avenge our shock, early-season victory over them.”

The enforced rest may have helped Bar 314 as it appears everyone has returned to fitness and should be able to select from a full squad.
