Vickers out to impress chairman

ASHLEY Vickers will not feel any added pressure to that he puts on himself when he shows off his side to chairman Shaun Hearn for the first time.

Dorchester Town’s caretaker-player/manager sees his charges take on Hampton & Richmond at the Jewson Stadium this afternoon (3pm), and with Hearn back from holiday he will be hoping for a good performance.

But the Magpies’ chairman has already shown his backing to the 37-year-old defender by allowing him to go out and bring in his own players, with recent signings Kyle Critchell and Ryan Hill both expected to feature.

“The only pressure I have is the pressure I put on myself,” said Vickers. “That is the same whether I play or manage – I’m always keen to win and it breaks my heart if I don’t.

“There’s a good feeling in the camp at the moment despite Tuesday night – we’ve drawn a line under that.

“Shaun has been superb with me, he’s been incredibly supportive and we’ve spoken a lot while he’s been away.

“He’s keen for Dorchester Town to do well and we want to create a local feel and get the town behind the club.” Hill will feature for the second time after making his second debut for the club at Woking last weekend while former Weymouth captain Critchell is expected to start as well. And the introduction of new faces should come as a warning to the under-performing members of the team.

“It’s all about trust,” added Vickers. “I need to have players out there that I can trust to give their all for Dorchester Town – if I can’t do that then that personnel needs to change.”

Vickers hopes to tie up a deal for Nathan Walker next week, but needs to wait for the seven-day notice period to run out, which should be the middle of the week.

Dorchester Town Football Club’s New Year’s Eve bash at the Prince’s Marquee with The Crack has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
