WEYMOUTH welcome North Dorset Seconds to Monmouth Avenue tomorrow (2.30pm), hoping to eliminate their opponents from the race for second place.
The Seasiders, who head into the Dorset & Wilts One South clash with three straight wins under their belt, are the current holders of the runners-up spot, leading Swanage & Wareham Seconds by virtue of a superior points differential.
Tomorrow’s visitors sit four points behind and defeat on the south coast will no doubt end their lingering hopes.
Director of rugby Barry Ross-Mack-enzie is not expecting an easy ride against a side that enjoyed a 29-0 win over Weymouth back in October, but he remains “confident” in the ability of his troops.
He said: “We’re looking to win all our remaining games to stay in that second-place position.
“Every game in this league is hard but if we stay positive and make the right decisions then I’m confident we will win tomorrow.”
Skipper Mark Sample has been impressed with the Seasiders’ performances since the turn of the year and is urging them to continue their good form right through to the end of the campaign.
He said: “I’ve been pleased with the way everyone has played since Christmas. A lot of lads are stepping up to the mark and showing their worth.
“They’re also putting their body on the line for their team-mates.”
Elsewhere, Swanage & Wareham visit mid-table Buckingham in South West One East (3pm).
The fourth-placed Swans have won three on the spin while tomorrow’s hosts have suffered three straight defeats.
Bridport, Dorchester and Puddle-town are all without fixtures this weekend.
The county town side were due to play Swindon in the Dorset & Wilts Vase but the latter now have a rearranged Southern Counties North match instead.
