White and Whyton give Heath attacking options

DEADLY duo Matt White and Lewis Whyton could be reunited tomorrow as Portland United travel to Sherborne Town Reserves (3pm).

The Blues’ first-choice strikers have not played together for four months with White sidelined by a knee injury and Whyton missing a handful of games through suspension and unavailability.

But the pair, who face competition from the likes of Carl Mutch and Mitch Conning, are raring to go ahead of tomorrow’s Dorset Premier League fixture.

Boss Stuart Heath said: “Matt’s back in the squad, Lewis is back from holiday and Carl is back from suspension so we’ve got great attacking options for tomorrow, which is something we’ve not had for a lot of this season.”

The seventh-placed islanders came out on top in the last meeting between the two sides but Heath, who is already looking ahead to next season, was full of praise for tomorrow’s opponents.

He added: “Tomorrow will be tough as I was particularly impressed with Sherborne when we played them earlier in the season.

“We do want to win and it would be nice to finish as high as we can, as well as go on an decent run.

“But where we finish in the league is not the priority, we want to give people opportunities to prove they are good enough to stay at the club long-term so we will use games to look at players. We’ll just keep trying to enjoy our football with a view to next season and look to get a consistent side together – again something we have not had this season for what ever reason.”

Defender Andy Perkins (broken ribs) remains sidelined while midfielder Liam Miles (four games) and keeper Nick Carroll (two games), who were both sent off in Portland’s 3-1 defeat to Wincanton almost three weeks ago, also miss out as they embark on their respective bans.

Blues (from): Cox, Cranny, Austin, J Charles, Clarke, Smith, Halloran, Maxted, M Conning, Churchill, Turrell, Houghton, D Skelton, White, Whyton, Mutch.
