SAM Charles will not be risked for Bridport’s Toolstation Western League Division One clash with Devizes Town if he is not 100 per cent fit.
The striker, who is also signed for Blue Square South outfit Dorchester Town on dual registration terms, netted his first goal for the Bees in Tuesday’s 4-2 win at Almondsbury UWE.
However, with Bridport set to face Premier Division outfit Larkhall Athletic in the Les Phillips League Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday, Charles could be rested if he has not recovered fully from his minor groin injury.
“I’m hoping he is okay,” said Bees’ boss Trevor Senior. “It’s not definite but he seemed to think he would be fine for tomorrow, but I won’t risk him unless he feels 100 per cent.”
Senior has previously said that the cup was his top priority, but he also wants to guide Bridport into the top 10 before the season is out.
However, following up Tuesday’s success with victory over third-bottom Devizes at St Mary's Field tomorrow (3pm) will not be easy after a recent upturn in form lifted the Wiltshire-based outfit clear of the foot of the table.
“They have won their last two games so we won’t take them lightly,” said Senior. “But being at home and after Tuesday night’s result we should be confident, so hopefully we should get a win. That would set us up nicely for our quarter-final against Larkhall on Tuesday.”
Ashley Clarke will bolster the reserves for their Dorset Senior Trophy semi-final at Holt United Reserves (2.30pm), but Chris Senior will return having picked up some silverware in midweek.
The manager’s son represented Gloucestershire University in their British University & Colleges Sport Championship final, helping them keep a clean sheet in their 1-0 success over Glasgow University at Sheffield United’s training ground.
Shane Evans could be available because of Weymouth Reserves’ empty weekend in the Dorset Premier League, with one other player – yet to be decided – set to be called into the squad.
