DEPARTED Weymouth manager Jerry Gill has issued a statement to Echosport following his resignation from the Terras this morning.

His statement said: "It is with regret that today I have tendered my resignation as manager of Weymouth Football Club.

"Following recent events it has become clear to me that the job is now untenable.

"I would like to go on record in saying that the travelling from the Midlands was not a factor in this decision as I was spending as much time as possible in Weymouth prior to games and training at my cost to allow me time to prepare my team properly and professionally.

"Due to the pending CVA I have not been able to bring my own players to the club but have thoroughly enjoyed coaching and managing the squad of players since my arrival and would like to thank them all for their efforts and commitment in what's a tough battle to survive in the Blue Square South.

"I knew it was a big challenge to turn things around when I came in but with the majority of established first team players having to leave and the fact we were going to be left with a squad of reserve and youth team players, next to no budget along with no guarantees of a club or budget for next season, I felt the time was right to move on.

"Weymouth is a huge non-League club that is currently experiencing its worse time in a wonderful 120-year history. I just hope that the club gets the chance to rebuild again under the right ownership and put it back where it firmly belongs which should be the top of the non-League pyramid system.

"I am proud to say I have managed Weymouth Football Club and have no regrets in taking the job.

"My thanks go to the supporters who continue to back the players come what may.

"I would like to wish everyone at Weymouth Football Club all the very best for the future."
