WEYMOUTH 38 NORTH DORSET II 3

WEYMOUTH captain Mark Sample hailed the contribution of his back-line as the Seasiders brushed aside North Dorset Seconds.

The Seasiders fell behind at Monmouth Avenue but came roaring back to win the Dorset & Wilts One South encounter by a comfortable 35-point margin.

And the win boosts their hopes of securing a second-placed finish behind champions-elect Bridport.

Sample said: “It was a really good performance and all the guys played really well, but I thought our back-line was excellent.

“We knew we would be in for a tough game but I think we were too strong for them in the end.

“North Dorset actually took the lead but it didn’t take long for us to go ahead. It was only 10-3 to us at half-time but we got stronger and stronger as the game went on.

“Even when we had 14 men on the pitch, after I was sin-binned, and then 13, when Adam Poole picked up an injury, we still looked the better team.

“Everybody stepped up to the mark but our backs cut them to pieces.”

The visitors opened the scoring with a penalty kick but the Seasiders hit back when Sample off-loaded to Rich Polley and he scored in the corner.

Despite creating a host of opportunities, the home side could only add an unconverted try from Sam-ple before the half-time whistle.

Weymouth enjoyed a more fruitful second period and quick hands put Will Quick into space to notch try number three, which was successfully converted by Tim Peplow.

Quick doubled his tally soon after and with Peplow adding the extras once again the home side’s lead had stretched to 21 points.

The away side sniffed an opportunity when Sample was sin-binned for killing the ball but the Seasiders kept North Dorset at bay and managed to increase their tally after Adam Poole went in under the posts – providing a simple conversion for Peplow.

Poole pulled up injured as a result but despite their numerical disadvantage, Weymouth completed the scoring when Dave Allan set up Ryan Lewendon for the final converted try.
