BOSS Ian Hutchinson has revealed he is interested in bringing Dorchester Town frontman Warren Byerley to the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Byerley has been told he will be a peripheral figure at the Magpies and he enquired about training with Weymouth with a view to a permanent transfer across the Ridgeway.

Hutchinson admitted being imp-ressed with the former Hamworthy United star, who enjoyed a productive spell on loan at Bridport earlier this year.

The Terras’ chief said: “I spoke to Ashley Vickers about Warren last Saturday and he said he didn’t think Warren would get much of a look-in at Dorchester with the numbers they have.

“Warren asked if he could come down to train to see how it goes. You can tell he has been working hard in pre-season because he has lost about a stone in weight.

“He has a good pedigree at this sort of level and is a strong lad with a good attitude. We will keep tabs on him and play it by ear, although I believe he has had a couple of offers elsewhere.”

Hutchinson has this week been busily trying to secure the services of a trio of players ahead of Saturday’s Zamaretto Premier Division curtain-raiser at Halesowen.

Lee Collier, Cameron Mawer and an unidentified striker – understood by Echosport to be ex-Fulham ace Barry Hayles – have all been approached.

Hutchinson confirmed he is still awaiting a response from two of the three aforementioned targets – but has conceded it is unlikely that Collier will be joining.

“We are waiting to hear from a few players at the moment and it is frustrating,” added Hutchinson. “We are hoping the deals will go through but can’t say for certain just yet.

“It would be good to get something sorted by Saturday but it’s not as easy as that.

“If nothing happens, we will have to go with what we’ve got, which is a group of honest lads who want to play for this football club.

“Matteus King will be training with us tonight, so we will have another look at him.

“He showed a few nice touches against Dorchester and seems to have something about him.”
