WEYMOUTH FC SUPPORTERS 0

GALAXY WINDOWS 3

HAT-TRICK hero Shane Sheridan put on an out of this world performance as Galaxy Windows triumphed over Weymouth FC Supporters at the Bob Lucas Stadium in the third annual Cornish Shield.

The Terras were missing several key players, including Sam Moors (broken wrist) and David Ash (broken ankle), and a strong Galaxy squad of 22 took full advantage.

Sheridan opened the scoring on 11 minutes with a quick free-kick before visiting keeper Pete Cowne made two fine saves to deny Charlie May a leveller.

Player-manager Colin Judge then wasted another opportunity for Weymouth as the game reached half-time with the Portlanders still holding on to the most slender of leads.

After the break, Galaxy made nine changes to their line-up with Cowne and Sheridan their only remaining members from the first half and the fresh legs soon told with the latter doubling the advantage on 61 minutes with a rebound after Nathan Cornish had saved from Justin Faulkner.

That proved a huge body blow for Weymouth and just five minutes later Sheridan grabbed his third by rounding three defenders before applying another clinical finish to put the outcome beyond doubt.

Dorset FA representative Louise Butcher presented winning skipper Matt Ramsey with the shield before a post-match buffet and disco was held in the Weyline Lounge.

Galaxy founder Andy Barber said: “To see a crowd of 171 turn out and support both sides was very emotional for me.

“To think we have gone from a five-a-side team to having five competitive teams and a youth academy in just four years is a great achievement.

“However, it could not have been done without the backing of Brendan Clancy from Galaxy Windows and the club’s three managers, Andy Lawlor, Colin Rice and Kieren Espley, along with the support of all the players.

“We have raised over £1,000 from this game for the youth academy and that will no doubt help us achieve our goal of continuous growth, so many thanks go out to everyone that took part and came to watch.”

During half-time the new Galaxy Under-7s took part in a penalty shootout against Wool Under-7s before being paraded in front of the crowd in their new kit.
