MILBORNE St Andrew came out on top at the Dorchester Area Sports Partnership Inter Multi-Skills Schools Festival.
Three schools – Cheselbourne First, Piddle Valley First and Milborne St Andrew First – took part in the event designed for pupils from years one and two.
The morning was a great success due to the quality of leadership from the outstanding year eight sports leaders from St Mary’s Middle School in Puddletown.
Among the challenges on offer were throwing, running, controlled falling, bouncing and aiming.
Levi Dailey, DASP sports co-ordinator, said: “The young year one and two pupils participated well and achieved an extremely high level of scores in most of the activities.
“I enjoy running these festivals with outstanding sports leaders, as I had from the middle school, and working with the younger pupils gives them a chance to show their teachers what they can actually achieve at a high level.
“If a pupil is great at one area in multi-skills then the pupil can be pushed or focused on a sport with the relevant skills. For example, if a pupil is great with accuracy in throwing a ball I would let them try basketball or netball very soon.
“I hope all schools start to focus and look at multi-skills for their young pupils in reception, and year one and two classes.”
