BOGNOR REGIS AMAZONS 84
WEYMOUTH HUSKIES 14
DEPLETED Weymouth Huskies were brushed aside by the amazing Amazons.
The Huskies made the trip to Bognor Regis with just six players at their disposal, while their higher-ranked hosts boasted double that amount.
The visitors started well enough, blocking many of the home side’s early attempts, but at the other end it took them a while to get their first points on the board – a Carly Dean lay-up.
Dean continued to show good form and soon pulled a three-pointer out of the bag.
With team-mate Ellen Blackwood following suit, the Huskies had mustered eight points by the end of the first quarter.
However, the away side would only manage a further six in the remaining three periods.
The pace of the game began to take its toll in the second and third quarters as the Amazons made their numerical advantage count.
The hosts were out of sight heading into the final period but the Huskies were not prepared to go down without a fight.
Blackwood added a lay-up and Weymouth worked hard to restrict their opponents to 16 points.
But the damage had been done and Bognor prevailed by 70 points.
Coach for the night Andy Blackwood said: “The girls put in a lot of hard work. Even though the opposition were a whole league above us it didn’t seem that way during regular play.
“The good offensive moves the girls put together need some fine-tuning to make sure they finish with points at the basket more often. But overall I enjoyed coaching the girls and would happily do it again.”
Huskies: Carly Dean 7, Ellen Blackwood 5, Nicolle Cornish 2, Rosie Moore, Sadie Osbourne, Rebecca Cameron.
