PHIL Simkin believes the 2011/12 campaign should be deemed an overwhelming success – whatever the outcome of this afternoon’s final-day clash with Bromley (3pm).

The Magpies head into the Avenue Stadium encounter on the back of three straight defeats in Blue Square Bet South and another loss at home to their lowly opponents could deny the county town outfit their first top-10 finish since 2005.

But regardless of today’s result, Simkin is proud of the club’s achievements this term.

The manager said: “I really hope we put on a show today and get a result but whatever happens, today should be a celebration of what has been a terrific season.

“If someone had offered us a mid-table finish at the start of the season we would have snapped their hand off.

“We flirted with the play-offs, which was great, but we didn’t quite have the strength in depth to see it through. Nevertheless it has been a terrific season and we should celebrate it.

“The football we have served up has also been terrific. In a way that has been the biggest success as we have completely changed the style of football here.

“I’m really looking forward to next season as there are a lot of things happening at the club and we are looking to build on what we’ve got and try and better what we have done this season.

“Whatever we do next season, we will do it playing good football.”

The Magpies’ end of season awards will be handed out after this afternoon’s match, and at this evening’s presentation night at the Wessex Royale Hotel.

Dorchester are also holding a Fun Day at the Avenue (starting midday), with under-16s gaining free entry to today’s game.
