WILL McKay will make his first appearance of the season for Weymouth tomorrow when the second-string entertain their counterparts from Dorchester at Redlands (2pm).

It is hoped the talented young batsman, who has first-team experience, will provide much-needed firepower in the runs department, particularly in the absence of big-hitter Dave Pearce.

Ben Doidge has also dropped down from the first team this week as captain Michael Pearce looks to kick-start his side’s campaign following six defeats and last weekend’s disappointing scratch against Christchurch due to a host of unavailabilities.

The determined skipper, whose bottom-of-the-table side currently lie 58 points adrift of safety in Dorset League Division Two on minus eight points, said: “The fact we had to scratch last Saturday’s match was very disappointing so this week we held a meeting to discuss exactly what we want to do.

“We want those in the seconds really pushing for places in the firsts and looking at the line-up we have out tomorrow there are several players that are more than capable of doing that.

“However, we need to have some consistency in terms of selection in order for us to get that competition and hopefully, after some tough talking this week about availability, we will now start to get that.”

With the first team having toppled Dorchester in the Dorset Premier League last weekend, Pearce will be hoping his men can follow suit as they continue to search for their first victory of the season. But the county town seconds are unlikely to be in a sympathetic mood.

Stuart Beasley’s side also experienced frustration last time out in the form of defeat at the hands of third-bottom Beaminster – a loss they will no doubt be keen to avenge.

Weymouth Seconds: Monk, Tucker, McKay, Doidge, Arm-field, Boggust, Batchelor, M Pearce, Puckett, Sers, Mitchell.
