DAN Smith has agreed to sign non-contract terms at the Bob Lucas Stadium and is expected to put pen-to-paper tomorrow night.

The ex-Truro City forward once again impressed in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Dorchester Town and Terras’ boss Brendon King is delighted to get him on board.

He told Echosport: “Dan looks quality. He chases things down and doesn’t stop running, and because of that defenders don’t like playing against him.

“I had a chat with him after the game and I am happy to say he has agreed to sign non-contract terms tomorrow, which is absolutely fantastic.”

The goalless draw saw the Terras share the Bob Lucas Trophy with their local rivals but King’s men were the better team on the day in what was also Ian Hutchinson’s testimonial.

A crowd of 504 watched the hosts dominate their Blue Square Bet South opponents, who were second to the ball for much of the contest.

Smith and Mark Ford were constant threats in the opening half but thanks to a clearance off the line from Harrison Bell the Magpies managed to see off the danger.

Despite a couple of changes the Terras still continued to press in the second half though, and were unfortunate not to force a winner with Jason Matthews denying Ford, Matt Groves sending an effort agonisingly wide and Alex Jeannin going close to turning in a corner.

Reflecting on the performance, King, whose side remain unbeaten in pre-season, added: “They forced Simon Evans into one save in the final minute and I think that tells the story.

“We stopped them playing, closed them down and I was impressed with the way we went about our business.

“We also looked a lot better defensively, moved the ball around well and created chances so overall I was very pleased indeed.

“However, in some ways it all counts for nothing because the most important thing is two weeks’ time and that all-important first league game of the season at home against Kettering Town.”

Hutchinson was given 18 minutes at the end for the Terras and savoured every single one of them as his family watched on with pride.

He said: “It was fantastic and a great day all-round.

“It was nice to get out there and get a couple of touches towards the end and I was delighted I didn’t give the ball away once, which was always my trait as a player.

“To be honest it was just good to play in front of the fans again and I would like to thank them for all their support, not only today but over the years as well.

“It was great having all the family here and many thanks go to Brendon King and the Weymouth board for making it happen.

“There is no better buzz than being out on that pitch.”

The Terras are next in action tomorrow night when they entertain Chickerell United (7.45pm).
