JAKE Richmond has shrugged off his side’s difficult start to the season by claiming the Terras are capable of matching anyone the Magna Dorset Premier League has to offer.

Weymouth face a tough opening four games which will see them pit their wits against Wincanton Town, Portland United, Holt Uni-ted and Chickerell United, but their joint-boss reckons they have nothing to be afraid of.

Richmond said: “Wincan-ton away is probably the toughest opening fixture we could have got.

“They battered us at their place at the start of last season but in the return game it was 2-0 and we pushed them all the way.

“With the likes of Port-land, Holt and Chickerell to come in the opening two weeks as well it is a tough start, there is no doubt about that, but it is not about results for us it is about performances.

“With the squad we have I am confident we can give anyone in this division a run for their money and one thing is for sure no one will have the legs on us. They may have more experience but they won’t be able to match us for energy.

“I also think we are going into this season with our eyes wide open whereas last year Nick Bennett (joint-boss) and I were perhaps a little naive.

“We know what the league is all about now and I have no doubts we will be a lot more competitive.”

New signings Liam Great-rex, Sanchez Jansz-Baker, Andy Hind and Louis Smith are all in the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Wincan-ton along with Jamie Fram-pton and Eddy Mitchell, who are only available until the end of next month due to university commitments.

Weymouth finished 12th last season while United came fourth, just seven points adrift of the top two.
